The Claw Game from Toy Story

After watching Toy Story 4, our kids wished to construct all kinds of fun Toy Story-themed crafts. This time, we created a fun Toy Story “The Claw” Game that mixes aliens, magnets, and a lot of entertainment.

What to Make:

Making the claw portion of the game will be our first step.

Start by creating a circle out of the ends of two silver pipe cleaners by twisting them together.

Pick three spots on the circle evenly spaced apart, then squeeze them together so that a “Y” shape is formed when the spaces between them meet in the center. You will use this as a claw. To imitate a grabbing nail from an arcade prize machine, slightly curve each pin.

Next, trim a yarn piece to about a foot in length. Attach one end to the middle of your pipe cleaner claw and the other to the straw or dowel’s tip.

The little magnet will then be hot-glued to the bottom center of the pipe cleaner claw. When that happens, you’ll have a claw fishing pole interested in grabbing big tiny metal objects!

It is time to create the tiny green aliens we will pick up with our claw.

Take some green foam paper to start. To make a piece, measure 2″ by 2″. It is folded in half.

Draw a pointed ear on the side of the oval opposite the fold, a half-oval on the folded edge, a half-antenna on the top of the oval along the fold, and other details with a pencil. Fold the paper in half again, then cut out your stencil.

Use your scissors to unfold and tidy up any portions that require it. Put a washer on the back of your alien head and secure it with hot glue. This will ensure our extraterrestrial from the claw’s magnetic field.

Turn your alien head over, add three google eyes, and then use a sharpie to design a mouth.

Repeating this method, you can create as many alien heads as you like.
